Founded in 1999, VSON Alpine provides top orthopaedic care to the Western Slope and offers a wide range of services, including:

  • Patient Education

  • Injury Prevention

  • Minimally-Invasive Intervention

  • Surgical Repair

Dr. Gloria Beim is fellowship-trained in Sports Medicine, which means she has additional training in complex knee, shoulder, joint, and sports-related injuries. The VSON Alpine team believes surgery should always be the last resort and works to alleviate your pain and injuries as conservatively as possible.

MEET DR. GLORIA BEIM

Dr. Gloria Beim founded VSON Alpine in 1999 and treats patients in Gunnison, Crested Butte, and Telluride. She enrolled in college at age 14, quickly earning her medical degree before earning her orthopedic credentials and completing her fellowship training in Sports Medicine. Gloria is Board Certified in both Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy. She has had the honor of being selected for many appointments by the United States Olympic Committee to care for the athletes of Team USA.

OUR SPECIALTIES

Dr. Beim is the top credentialed orthopedic doctor in the Gunnison Valley, specializing in sports medicine and orthopaedic care. Her areas of expertise include:

  • Shoulder: The shoulder is a large and complex joint, vulnerable to injury and overuse with sports, exercise, and physical activity. Injuries to the shoulder joint that VSON Alpine commonly treats are instability, dislocations, and fractures.

  • Elbow: Elbow injuries can be caused by overuse, a direct blow, or landing on the joint in such a way that it is forced beyond its normal limits.

  • Hand/Wrist: Given that outstretching our arms when falling is a natural protective reaction of the body, many sports make our wrists and hands vulnerable to injury.

  • Hip: Overuse and disease can cause deterioration of these joints, while sports and other physical activity can lead to hip injuries, such as fractures.

  • Knee: The knee is one of the body's most easily injured joints (especially while skiing). While VSON Alpine treats several knee conditions - including fractures, dislocations, sprains, and ligament injuries - Dr. Beim is known for her expertise in ACL reconstruction.

  • Foot/Ankle: Like other sports medicine injuries, pain in the foot or ankle can result from damage to bones, ligaments, tendons, or a combination of these and can range in severity from mild to severe.

  • Joints: While the providers at VSON Alpine will try to treat a joint conservatively at first, at times, joint replacement (total or partial) may be the only option. In this surgical procedure, damaged joints (or parts of a joint) are removed and replaced with a prosthesis.

At times, surgical intervention is the only way to repair injury or halt disease progression. Dr. Biem built Alpine Surgery Center to provide patients with safe, high-quality care for their outpatient surgical needs. At a fraction of the price of hospital settings and with the most personalized care possible, our ambulatory surgery center has been exceeding patient expectations since it opened its doors.  LEARN MORE.
