As our team prepares for our journey to Rwanda this week, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the many of you who have expressed your interest and best wishes for our trip. We could never undertake such an endeavor without the support of so many generous friends, colleagues, and our entire Summit County Community and beyond.
This will be a very ambitious trip involving many participants, eight of us form Summit County, and various people working on multiple planned projects. More opportunities to assist will arise while we are there, as well. For example, we hope to provide further training in the use of the SIGN nail, www.signfracturecare.org.
I will be working at the Mugonero Hospital with Monica Cowing from the Peak One Surgery Center, Cohan Zarnoch, RN, Matt Cowell, CRNA, Susan Zayas Gruber, CRNA, as well as Denver colleagues Lynda Kithil, RN and Paula Enrietto, MA. I have been in touch with their medical staff who have sent xrays for review and preoperative planning, most of which appear to be quite challenging. The St. Anthony Summit Medical Center Foundation Rwanda Fund was very generous in helping some providers with their travel expenses, and out Summit County Rotary provided funding for necessary surgical equipment.
Whether a veteran and seasoned traveler, or a first time participant, every day is and will be an adventure.
