Elbow
Conditions

The elbow joint – one of the body’s largest joints – connects the radius and ulna (forearm bones) to the humerus (upper arm bone). A network of ligaments and muscles stabilize the joint and enable its broad range of motion. Not only is the elbow joint responsible for bending and straightening, but it also helps the forearm rotate during hand motions. Due to its frequent use, the elbow joint is often stressed and prone to injuries, such as hyperextension and fractures, and orthopaedic conditions, such as osteoarthritis and bursitis.

When Should I Consult an Elbow Specialist?

Make an appointment to see an orthopaedic elbow physician immediately if the following symptoms are present after an impact or fall:

  • Severe pain

  • Bruising

  • Swelling

  • Obvious elbow deformity

  • Impacted range of motion

  • A protruding bone

If you have an elbow injury or condition that does not improve after home care, which includes resting, icing, and anti-inflammatory medications, we advise seeing an orthopaedic professional. This is especially true if the pain occurs even while the elbow is at rest or if you notice increased swelling, redness, and pain in the joint.

At Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, our fellowship-trained elbow doctors will work with you to diagnose your condition and design a treatment plan that fits your needs.

VSON did such a good job on my left elbow in 2018 that I went back to them for help with my right. Truly thankful to Dr. Joseph, Dr. Dorf, and their teams. 10/10 would recommend!
