Golden Peak in Vail was the site as the world's best snowboarders once again showed the world why the Burton U.S. Open is the premier freestyle snowboarding competition. And VSO was once again part of this world-class event.
This year, we were "stoked" to sponsor local TV coverage of the event via our fantastic local station, TV8 Vail. TV8's Ashley Prill, Eric Sunblad, and Mark Sassi provided exceptional coverage of this much-anticipated event by getting up close and personal with the athletes, industry vets, and special guests who make the U.S. Open an incredible blend of sporting spectacle and industry showcase.
This year, former legends like Terje Haakonsen and Jack Mitrani mingled with rising stars such as Red Gerard and established snowboarding superpros like Danny Davis and Scotty James. But the real action was on the slopestyle course and in the halfpipe. In the end, Olympic Gold Medalist/Colorado Native Gerard shocked the world by seizing the slopestyle win while James won the men's halfpipe as snowy conditions added to the drama.
On the women's side, Chloe Kim was the favorite in the halfpipe, but Maddie Mastro pulled off the huge upset when she landed the first ever "double crippler" in women's competition. Zoie Sadowski Synnott was the winner of the women's slopestyle competitions.
Once again, it was an incredible honor to welcome the Burton U.S. Open to Vail. See you next year and enjoy these interviews with VSO Docs Erik Dorf, MD and Richard Cunningham, MD!
